What is classical poetry? One might define classical, or formal, poetry as the art of skillfully composing inspired words, rhythm, rhyme, and form for the purpose of producing an image, a story, a feeling, an idea in such a way that it comes alive in the reader’s mind as vividly as possible. In keeping with the traditions of classical poetry, Kate Elizabeth Sgambati offers her first collection of poems in Book of Verse: Volume One. The book contains eight chapters: Seasons, Sonnets, Ballads, Death, Life, Wings, Remembrances, Allegory. Books are gratefully signed by the poet!

The first volume of poetry is a treasure. The book is beautiful and would make a great gift for mother’s day, father's day or graduation. The poems are well written and thought provoking. I'm enjoying reading poems about Union County, GA written by a local poet who is extremely talented.

My favorite poem is The Broken Butterfly. Usually, I underline things, fold back pages and write in margins. However, this book is special and will remain unmarked even when read over and over again.
